The Mess Going On In Night Clubs In Lagos
The
Mess Going On In Night Clubs In Lagos
Activities at night clubs and bars in some parts of Lagos State have positive and negative influences. Lagos does not lag behind when it comes to grandiose shows. Some people would even prefer to drum home this fact by using the slogan, ‘Eko for show’, a catchphrase for Lagos’ high-flying status.
"At night clubs, one can socialise and get useful business... connections. On the negative, they can promote extreme indulgence in alcoholism and sexual escapades. There is a tendency for one to consume more alcoholic drinks than required. Commercial sex workers also loiter around such places. Someone who lacks self control may be tempted to want to have a feel of anyone of them."
Punch's GBENGA ADENIJI reports that this love for spectacle is noticeable in the merriment which club houses in the state dish out from time to time. The state government once said residents of the state spend over N1bn on parties and entertainment every month.
Every week, there is usually a place for fun seekers to hang out in various parts of the metropolis. In fact, there are now night clubs in some residential areas. It is not unusual these days to see fun spots springing up where residential buildings were once erected. From Ikeja, Surulere, Oshodi, Akowonjo, Iyana Ipaja, Abule Egba, Ogba to Ikorodu and other areas in the state, Friday is usually a special day.
On this day, music blares from every nook and cranny till dawn. The fun, which starts midweek in some parts, reaches a crescendo on Friday. Some singers, especially those in the hip hop and juju genres, have even made special releases on the importance of Friday in the start of a weekend of merry-making.
As it rocks in Lagos, the same happens in Port Harcourt, Abuja and other notable cities in the country. Drinks of all types usually accompany the entertainment. A recent data has shown Nigeria as one of the leading countries with high champagne consumption.
A dispatch rider, Henry Smith, who was sighted at a night club in Iyana Ipaja area of Lagos State, said siting relaxation centres within residential areas have some merits and demerits.
He said apart from noise pollution and security threat which they could pose to such areas, they provide on-the-move relaxation to residents. Smith further said the level of noise from worship centres could sometimes be more than what emanates from night clubs.
He said, "These club houses pay all manner of taxes to local governments in their domains. They employ security men to ensure orderliness. Some people even feel safe when they get to a place and see a night club there. The people trooping into the club and the noise coming out from there often light up the environment. Nigeria is a place where people work hard to survive. You can imagine what the situation will be if there are no places to unwind."
He added that fun spots could attract people of questionable characters into a neighbourhood thereby endangering the safety of occupants.
A worker with an international courier company, Rotimi Oyeneyin, described night clubs as venues for extreme fun seekers to unwind.
He said even though there was nothing bad in hanging out in a club after a hard day’s job, it could be extreme when one stayed throughout the night. Oyeneyin added that night clubs could encourage alcoholism and sexual recklessness.
He also said besides the huge noise pollution from night clubs, there had been cases of auto crashes arising from drunkenness of people coming from such places.
Oyeneyin said, "But one cannot rule out the fact that night clubs are best places to relax after working so hard. Apart from relaxing, one can meet individuals who can lead one to meaningful business deals."
A banker, who lives on Jonathan Coker in New Oko-Oba, Lagos, Princewill George, expressed displeasure over the building of night clubs within residential areas. According to him, such club houses only harbour criminals whose activities make residents uncomfortable.
George said, "I know what I experience every night with the noise pollution from night clubs in my area. On weekends, males and females besiege the clubs to enjoy. Cars are often parked haphazardly on the road, with music playing at a deafening level."
Also, a resident in Oke-Ira, Ogba, whose house is near a night club, Mr. Alphonsus Edward, said he hardly sleeps every Friday. He stated that he struggles to cope with a noise from the speakers of the club and that of a record seller few metres away from his house.
Edward said, "I know that listening to music is one of the ways customers in the club enjoy themselves. But I do not think it is necessary for the music to filter to those who are outside the club. I wonder how those inside the club enjoy the noise because it even disturbs those outside."
If you frequent night clubs, make sure you watch you back, as there are some guys who are out to "loot"?See More

Man Dumps Wife For Sister Inlaw, Says Her Cooking
And Sex Is Better
HE WAS married and had two kids and all was
well in his marriage . . .
But eight months ago the 33-year-old
man dumped his wife and moved in with his 35-year-old sister-in-law who
is now pregnant!
His wife is brokenhearted and the families of
the couple are in shock. A meeting attended by elders from the families
was held last weekend in Rockville, Soweto, between the man, his wife
and sister-in-law.
The man gave his reasons for dumping his
wife.
“My new lover gives me wonderful intimate pleasure. She
is also a better cook than my wife,” he told the meeting.
A
family member said the man had been with his 29-year-old wife for 10
years.
She said the man explained that he impregnated his
wife’s sister because he loves her and only God could separate them.
She said: “We always heard the wife complaining that her husband
was not sleeping in the house, but we never thought he could be dating
her sister.”
The man told them he was planning to marry his new
lover because she had all it took to be his wife.
His legally
married wife said she is not ready to speak to Daily Sun now.
When the People’s Paper called the husband and his sister-in-law, the
phone went on voicemail.

Husband Flees As Wife
Delivers Triplets In Enugu
The joy of Mrs. Ifeoma Odo of Ebo Umuabor in Nsukka Local Government Area, Enugu State, could turn to tears after her husband absconded on hearing that she was in labour for triplets.
Odo told the News Agency of Nigeria in Nsukka on Friday that her husband, Mr. John-Patrick Odo, disappeared when he realised she would give birth to triplets....
“It’s been seven days since I put to bed, yet I have not seen my husband. Several attempts to reach him through his telephone have failed as he switched off his mobile phone.
“I know he has no job but that should not be the reason for him to abandon me and the babies,” she said of her husband of three years.
Odo appealed to the government and good spirited individuals to come to the aid of the triplets, saying they required a lot of care to survive having been born pre-term.
“I will be very grateful to all who offer financial help to me and my babies at this difficult moment,” she said.

Woman Sells Husband's
Range Rover For N10,000 After Husband Ran Off With His Secretary
A man in Nairobi saw an ad in the paper for an “almost new” Range Rover Sport, in excellent condition – price Ksh.5000 (N10,000).
He was certain the printers had made a typographical error, but even at Ksh.50,000 it would have been a bargain, so he hurried to the address to look at the car....
A nice-looking woman appeared at the front door. Yes, she had placed the ad. The price was indeed Ksh.5000. “The car,” she said, “is in the garage. Come and look at it.”
The fellow was overwhelmed. It was a beautiful Range Rover Sport and, as the ad promised, “nearly new.”
He asked if he could drive the car around the block. The woman said, “Of course,” and went with him. The Range Rover drove like a dream.
The young man peeled off Ksh.5000 and handed it over, somewhat sheepishly. The woman gave him the necessary papers, and the car was his.
Finally, the new owner couldn’t stand it any longer. He had to know why the woman would sell the Range Rover at such a ridiculously low price.
Her reply was simple: With a half-smile on her face, she said, “My husband ran off with his secretary a few days ago and left a note instructing me to sell the car and the house, and send him the money.

Denies Report of Holding NEC Meeting in Kano Today
The Academic Staff Union of University (ASUU) has dismissed report going round the media, especially social media platforms that it held of the union’s National Exectuve Council to discuss the possibility of calling off the strike.
Chairman of the University of Ibadan branch of the union, Dr. Olusegun Ajiboye, said the s...tories of the meeting in Kano are rumours.
He said in an interview monitored on Diamond FM, University of Ibadan, that there was no meeting scheduled by the union for Saturday as they were still observing seven days of mourning in honour of the late former national chairman of the union, Festus Iyayi.
The union was last week scheduled the meeting of its National Executive Council to hold in Kano, where they were expected to take a final decision on whether to continue with their strike or accept the FG’s offer, but cancelled it when one of their colleague and a former president of the union was killed in a car crash by the convoy of the Governor of Kogi state.
No new date has been fixed for the cancelled meeting, thus the fate of university students who have stayed at home for over four months remains unknown.

Banker Stole N24m From
Customers' Accounts In Ondo
A female staff of an old generation bank in Ondo State, southwest Nigeria, Alabi Joy Omotayo, 26, has been arrested by the police at Onikan division, Ikoyi, Lagos for allegedly withdrawing N24 million from the bank’s customers’ accounts.
After investigation by Police Corporal Orifa Olugbenga and his team, the suspect was arraigned before an Igb...osere Magistrates’ Court, Lagos on a five-count charge of felony to wit, stealing.
The police alleged in charge No C/34/2013 that the accused was arrested following a complaint by the management of the bank’s headquarters in Lagos that the accused, a customer service care officer at their Ondo branch office, had stolen N24 million.
The bank further said that they discovered the fraud when they audited their account.
During investigation, according to the police, they discovered that Joy, a resident of 7, Mary Peter Street, Itogbe, Ondo State, allegedly used computers to have unauthorized access to her employer’s programmes, data and electronic data of the customers’ records and withdrew the sum of N10.5 million from account No. 3031456895 belonging to a customer of the bank.
Joy was also alleged to have on 10 June, 2013 and 8 July, 2013, withdrawn N4.5 million from account No. 2006365332, and N9.1 million from account No. 3023171579 without authorization.
The offences the accused committed, according to the police prosecutor, Sgt Babatope Julius, are punishable under sections 409, 389 and 285(7) of the criminal laws of Lagos state, 2011.
Joy pleaded not guilty to the crime in the open court, and the presiding Chief Magistrate, Mrs. F. O. Aigbokhaevbo admitted her on bail in the sum of N500,000 with two sureties in like sum. She adjourned the matter till 15 November, 2013 for mention.
The defendant was, however, moved to Kirikiri Prison, Apapa, Lagos, pending when she will fulfill the bail conditions.

See Photos Of Davido's Bodyguards Injuries + Statement From HKN
I brought you gist early this morning concerning the brawl that happened in a club in Lagos between HKN leader Davido’s bodyguard and the DJ of the club.
Davido’s team have released official pictures of his injured bodyguard, TJ, who was allegedly stabbed twice, in the neck and the hand, by the DJ of the club an...d they also released an official statement on the incident.
Read statement below: -
The facts: DJ Jaydee of Grotto stabbed Davido’s bodyguards, evades police Falsified accounts of a recent incident at the Grotto club on Sunday have made the rounds. Davido’s Management hereby wishes to clear the air on them with the statement below.
After a successful outing at a recent concert on Sunday November 3 at Eko Hotels, popular musician Davido headed to the Grotto Nightclub on Victoria Island. After a brief stay at the club, Davido and his crew proceeded to his vehicle outside to head home. Upon entering the vehicle, he realized that his ATM card was missing. His body guard Tijani Olamilekan Ogbeide better known as Teejay got down from the vehicle to search for the ATM card in the club.
Upon alighting, he was accosted by an already drunk ‘DJ Jide Jay Dee’who had in his hand a champagne flute. This DJ Jaydee informed Teejay that he had the ATM card in his hand and would like to personally deliver it to Davido. Teejay politely asked him to hand over the ATM card as it was clear that Davido was right in his view in his car. DJ Jaydee refused to hand over the card without payment and instead proceeded to shout that he knew who Davido was personally and that he [DJ Jaydee] was a known person in Lagos. Teejay refused him access to Davido which led DJ Jaydee to throw the ATM card on the ground in anger. As Teejay bent to retrieve the card, DJ Jaydee stabbed him in the neck with the champagne flute he was holding. An oblivious Teejay threw him off his back and proceeded to return the ATM card to Davido. As he was entering the car to leave, one of the occupants noticed the stab wounds and called his attention to the blood.
Teejay promptly alighted from the car and went to confront DJ Jaydee who was still yelling outside. DjJaydee apparently not done with his violence stabbed the bodyguard a second time, this time on his hands and ran off into the club. Teejay searched for him to no avail and left the club soon after.
Tijani Olamilekan Ogbeide has since reported the matter to the police and they have been to the club to invite DJ Jaydee for questioning. Grotto has been unable to deliver DJ Jaydee to the police, instead malicious and falsified accounts of the incident have found their way on social media portals being championed of course by sources intent on casting vile aspersions on Davido and his bodyguard Teejay. DjJaydee is yet to surface. Tijani Olamilekan Ogbeide has pressed charges to this effect.
Davido’s management categorically refutes all the allegations of violence as insinuated by some. Teejay was carrying out his job by restricting access to Davido from an unknown and obviously inebriated and violent individual. He performed his duties as bodyguard and instead of resorting to violence, followed the dictates of the law. Members of the public and fans should please note that Davido was not present at this unfortunate incident that occurred that night as erroneously reported in a few quarters.
Thank You

4.74 In Bells Uni
Seven years after an unwanted pregnancy forced her to drop out of the University of Ilorin, Aishat Farooq emerges the best graduating student of the Bells University of Technology, Ota, Ogun State, When Aishat Farooq gained admission into the University of Ilorin at 15, to study Zoology, ...little did she know that she was not going to be an alumnus of the institution. That was in 2003.
Despite the fact that she was a high flyer in her first two years in UNILORIN, the now 25-year-old indigene of Ilorin West-Local Government Area of Kwara State got distracted along the line. She played the campus love game and got a shocking result: she got pregnant. It was in 2006 and in her third year. She was pregnant for a fellow student whom she had been dating. She was disappointed in herself and thought the whole world was crashing on her. Yet, she vowed not to terminate the pregnancy.
Although she wanted to continue her studies in the university, she became disillusioned and dropped out at 18. She sought consolation in trading. But her father, Mr. Shehu Farooq, who believed that his daughter's academic prowess should not be wasted, was determined to get her back on the academic track. Today, Aishat has a different story to tell. On Saturday, she stood tall among her peers at the 5th convocation ceremony of Bells University, Ota, Ogun State, where she emerged the overall best graduating student with a Cumulative Grade Point Average of 4.93."The rebel in me won," she declared while giving the valedictory address on behalf of the 208 graduating students of the university.
"I hope my story will inspire at least one person to change his or her circumstance. I was pregnant at 18 and by 19 I was already a mother. I had disappointed my father who believed so much in me. He had such big dreams for me and feared the dreams would become unfulfilled," she added. Breaking the news of the pregnancy to her father, who was at the time based in the northern part of the country, was not easy. Aishat's mother, Fatima, who stayed in Lagos with the family, did not break the "sad news" to the man until the lady was almost due. The mum feared her husband would be too angry. Fatima narrated to our correspondent, "Looking back, we knew her to be very brilliant. But all of a sudden she got pregnant. Though her father and I were always discussing on the telephone, I hid it from him. Whenever he said he would be coming to Lagos to visit us, I would quickly chip it in that I would like to be the one to visit. So, I ensured I was the one always visiting him.
"That was how I managed the situation until the pregnancy was eight months. But even when we broke the news to him, he felt really bad. Although there was nothing he could do, he couldn't go out for three days."Aishat studied Business Administration with specialisation in Human Resources Management, and received the Vice-Chancellor's Prize for the Overall Best Graduating Student with a cash reward of N50,000 and a plaque. She also won the College of Management Sciences Prize and Department of Business Administration Prize for the Best Graduating Student.
Speaking after she received the awards, Aishat, whose face beamed with smiles, expressed gratitude to her dad for not losing hope in her during her trying time.
She noted that the popularly-held notion that the child that goes astray belongs to the mother, while the good ones belong to the father, was not applicable in her situation as her father did not give up on her.
Asked why her dad had so much hoped in her, she stated that her history of academic excellence from childhood right to the university was a major driving force.Aishat, who attended Nazareth Nursery and Primary School, Lagos; Penny International College, Lagos and Model Secondary School, Maitama, Abuja, said she bagged several academic awards while growing up and noted that she secured admission to UNILORIN the same year she completed her secondary education. She noted, "I did exceptionally well and bagged awards in the schools I attended. I had the overall best result at the Senior Secondary School Certificate level at Model Secondary School, Maitama, Abuja. In fact in UNILORIN, I was on the first class grade in my first year but in 200 Level, I dropped to second class upper division because I had already started getting distracted by the boys.
"It just happened that things turned out the way it did. But here I am, a product of God's unending mercies, unconditional love and grace – all coupled with the faith my dad had in me and my fierce determination.
"I'm a goal getter. I push myself hard. Even here (BELLSTECH) in spite of being a mother, I was pushing for the best despite the challenges. I wanted to make my dad proud again. Once you are determined, nothing is impossible. Nothing can stop you."She said her decision to study Business Administration as against the sciences, which she was studying in UNILORIN, was informed by her two-year experience in the world of business after she dropped out of university. She explained that incessant strikes by the Academic Staff Union of Universities, however, informed her decision to attend a private university. "Age was no longer on my side and I wanted to do it fast. And my dad could afford it because he was a businessman," she added.
Asked if she was involved in any relationship at the Bells, she explained that she was a popular "snob" on campus because the majority of male students were younger than her. Besides, she did not want to get distracted or disappoint her parents and herself again.
Aishat, who has been posted to Lagos State to observe the mandatory National Youth Service Corps scheme, said, "If you ask around you will be told that I was a snob. My favourite spot was my room. I rarely went out of the room for social events. I went to mosque. However, when I contested for the president of my departmental association, Business Administration Students Association, the Nigerian system worked against me.
"I lost to my male opponent. Although I had plans to take some giant strides if I won, especially in the academic aspect for my fellow students, the fact that I was not the type of person who hangs out worked against me. I didn't have a social life."
She said she has no plans for marriage for now. She wants to pursue a master's degree programme in Human Resources in the University of Aberdeen, Scotland. She added that she also plans to work in a corporate environment to garner experience and afterwards go back to the university to teach "as a way of giving back."The second child in a family of eight children, Aishat brought her six-year-old son, Damilola, to the convocation. It was, however, learnt that the Edo State-born father of the boy has since got married to another woman. She noted that her major challenge on campus was the randomness of classes which denied her the opportunity of spending quality time with her son while her stay in the university lasted.
"We had visiting professors who came into the campus at anytime. Although we had schedules, many of them had a bit of flexible time. Sometimes on Sunday when I took permission to visit my child in Lagos, my classmates would call me up on the phone that there was going to be a class. Because attendance is very important, I had to rush down. This affected me a little," she added.Aishat's father advised parents to give their children and wards the best of tutelage and close monitoring. He noted that he least expected the feat achieved by his daughter as he was at a time disturbed that "she could no longer make it."Asked if it was lack of adequate monitoring that made Aishat go astray at UNILORIN, he said,
"Let's just say that is how God wants it. You see, 70 per cent of the fault is on us the parents. Parents should give their children good supervision and tutelage. With this, they cannot derail. I thank God for her because it's is not easy to have raised her from grass to grace."I screamed on the phone the day I learnt she was pregnant. I started asking questions: When, where and how. I burst into tears. But today, she is a new being. And I know the mistake will not repeat itself. My expectations for her are that she should fly higher and higher."
Some other graduands who distinguished themselves were also recognised at the convocation ceremony.Kolawole Lawal, who finished from the Department of Economics with a CGPA of 4.73, received the Olusegun Obasanjo's Prize for being the best graduating student with outstanding academic performance and leadership qualities. Former President Obasanjo who is the Chief Promoter of the university, also attended the event.
Francis Sogunle, from the Department of Computer Science, who had a CGPA of 4.74, received the Chancellor's Prize for excelling in external competitions of academic nature.
At the ceremony, 208 students were awarded first degrees with Aishat and 13 others being conferred with first class degrees, while 64 of them got second class upper degrees; 83 bagged second class lower; just as 43 were awarded third class degrees. Meanwhile four of the graduands finished with pass degrees.
The Vice-Chancellor of the university, Prof Isaac Adeyemi, charged the graduates to be patriotic and dedicated to nation building."Our beloved country is currently going through a rather stressful period. All hands must be on deck to seek lasting solutions to militancy and insurgencies and disregard for the rule of law. This is the time to prove your worth as you can't afford to fold your arms or sit on the fence," he observed

There Will Be No
Compensation For Boko Haram Victims – President Jonathan
The victims of the Boko Haram atrocities may have had their hope dashed as President Jonathan yesterday said that the Federal Government will not pay compensation to them.
According to the President Jonathan he admitted that the his administration have not won the fight against terror, though there are progress made by the... country’s security outfits.
Speaking while receiving the report from the Presidential Committee on Dialogue and Peaceful Resolution of Security Challenges in the North, a committee which is chaired by the Special Duties Minister, Alhaji Taminu Turaki.
Speaking further President Jonathan expressed his dissatisfaction at the rate of the severe hostility of the group, especially against innocent civilian population, that has given it name as the as the most deadly terror group in the world.
According to Jonathan, he also expressed hope that the committee’s recommendation would also help in curbing the immoderation of the sect’s member to a finish.
He however, ruled out compensation for victims of the Boko Haram group even as he added that his administration was sympathetically willing any submission that the committee has made in order to help the victims get back to normal life.
Commending the committee he said; “it’s not a ballroom dance because you were asked to meet the kind of characters you cannot predict their behaviour.
“It is quite risky and I believe that some of you, within this period, your immediate families believed that if they used to pray two times, they will be praying 10 times to make sure that God see you through. We are indeed very happy that within the period of this assignment, nothing quite untoward happened to any of you. We have to thank God for that.”
“We have to thank you for concluding, though we can’t say that we have won the war. But listening to the address by the chairman, we believe that the document you have submitted will help us with the follow-up action.”
“Finally, we will be able to bring the issue of the excesses of Boko Haram to a close. It is a challenging period for the country.”

Buhari, Tinubu, Akande Begs Amaechi In Port Harcourt [See Pics]
Chieftains of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, General Muhammadu Buhari, rtd and the National Chairman of the APC Chief Bisi Akande, yesterday, in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, urged Governor Chibuike Amaechi to come over to the APC.
Describing Governor Amaechi as a very courageous politician,... Tinubu said the APC was the party for people like the governor.
As the recruitment train of the All Progressives Congress, APC, moved to Port Harcourt, Rivers State capital yesterday, Governor Rotimi Chibuike Amaechi, one of the seven opposition governors amused his numerous supporters as he promised to consult with President Goodluck Jonathan and other stakeholders in the political sector before deciding on whether he would remain in the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, or cross over to the All Progressive Congress, APC.
The governor who spoke at a rally organised to receive the national leadership of the APC in Government House; Port Harcourt, yesterday, said he was a special person among the seven governors that floated the new Peoples Democratic Party. Unlike others according to him, he hails from the same South-South zone with President Goodluck Jonathan.
“I am peculiar in the group of the seven governors. The President comes from our zone. I will consult our leaders, the President; I will consult you, (referring to the mammoth crowd). I will consult all consultables.
I will come back to you. The day we shall take a decision it will be at the new stadium that can take 40,000 persons. If we are staying (referring to the PDP), we shall call the President to the stadium to address us, but if we are going we shall call Tinubu and Buhari to come and address us, ” he said.
The governor who took on his political foes said the political crisis in the state was largely due to his refusal to abuse public funds, stressing that he was not a corrupt governor. “They don’t accuse me of being corrupt. They only say I don’t run an inclusive government which is Chop I chop”, he said.
Continuing, he said he would continue to pray to the Almighty God to protect the state from those he accused of plotting to plunder its resources.
Governor Amaechi, who laced his speech with some gospel songs said the Almighty God had always put his opponents to shame, adding that it was part of the reasons why he danced joyously at the funeral of the foster mother of the first lady which held in Okrika, Rivers State recently.
“I was told I would be stoned at Okrika if I come there. I went there, I raised my right hand and there was applause, I raised the left, it was the same. I said God, I thank you. Those on the other side are corrupt. We shall reply them one after the other. They have served and now are hungry.”
Continuing, the governor described some of his political foes as “desperate and hungry politicians” even as he assured that he would continue to deliver on the dividends of democracy to the state.
Dismissing fears that he would be removed as governor through a court verdict on November 11, the governor also gave a brief account of how his administration had been spending public funds. “You have been hearing we will remove him since 2007. Have I been removed?
They talk as if they own God. They said we will be removed on the 11th which is Monday. Come on that day, I will dance here”. Amaechi then burst into a gospel song again which said, “there is nobody greater than God, there is no one greater than Jehovah Lord Divine”.
He said his administration was constructing roads, building health centres and schools, adding that he had also commenced an empowerment scheme for youths in various wards in the state.
Governor Amaechi further called on the people to resist acts of impunity on the part of the Police command in the state.
“I came down to march with you when I heard that they locked the gate at the airport against you. We walked five kilometres to the airport. We forced the gate open and I walked with you. We must prepare ourselves from now on”, he said.
Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, General Muhammadu Buhari, rtd., and the National Chairman of the APC Chief Bisi Akande in their separate speeches at the event urged Governor Amaechi to come over to the APC.
While commending the achievements of the governor so far in the state, Tinubu said they were in Port Harcourt to invite him to join the APC. “We did not come here to campaign but to see and invite. Amaechi has performed well. This country can’t progress on lies.”
Tinubu later moved a motion calling on the governor to cross over to the APC and it was endorsed by the mammoth gathering.

ASUU Set To Call Off Strike As They Get A Better Deal Of N1.1 Trillion
ASUU Set To Call Off
Strike As They Get A Better Deal Of N1.1trillion
Details of the Monday/Tuesday marathon meeting between President Goodluck Jonathan and the leadership of the Academic Staff Union of Universities have begun to emerge.
“The meeting should be the longest that we have ever had on this crisis but I can tell you that both parties were frank all through the discussions. “The partie...s also showed commitment towards ending the crisis. The President in particular showed that he was serious about ending the strike and that was why he offered to release over N1tn to the universities in the next five years.”
Punch gathered on Tuesday evening that a key component of the agreement reached by the parties was that the Federal Government would inject N1.1tn into public universities in the next five years.A reliable source, who made this known, also hinted that the strike would be called off anytime next week.
He said the government team which was led by President Goodluck Jonathan would release N220bn yearly into the sector beginning from 2014.The source added, “The money will be released on a yearly basis at N220bn per annum beginning from 2014. For the outgoing year, the government will only release N100bn and this has been processed.”
He said that the government, in order to show its commitment to a fresh pact, accepted that “the fund (N1.1tn) should domiciled at the Central Bank of Nigeria”“The money will be released on a quarterly basis to the universities. So, there won’t be any problem about funding the deal,” the source said.
The National Universities Commission and the Trade Union Congress, according to him, are joint guarantors of the agreement while the Minister of Education will be the implementation officer. The source said that the government agreed among other things, to revamp the public universities by ensuring that all those issues that always led to strike were dealt with once and for all.It was learnt that the negotiating team of ASUU led by Dr. Nassir Faggae met on Tuesday to further deliberate on the deal.
We gathered the ASUU team have reached an agreement to take the deal offered by Jonathan and that they will meet the larger ASUU caucus by weekend to agree and end the strike.
